After obtaining the Ph.D. in 1994 from the University of Bordeaux, he was drafted as an INRA researcher in biology and genetics, specializing in citrus fruits, at the INRA research station in San Giuliano (Corsica, France). Throughout the career, he explored various research topics, beginning with plant breeding (creation of triploid hybrids), followed by the study of genetic diversity, mechanisms of diversification, and the phylogeny of secondary species. To this end, he has developed approaches and tools in molecular biology and genomics, but he also used chemical methods to analyze metabolites (sugars, organic acids, carotenoids, terpenoid compounds, etc.). Citrus tolerance to abiotic stresses (salinity, cold, water deficiency) and their effects on fruit physiology and quality have been one of the central themes of its researches. He is currently in charge of developing cryopreservation techniques to safeguard the citrus collection. He is the author of more than 100 scientific articles, approximately 20 book chapters, and has delivered more than 150 presentations at conferences and public events. He has been teaching for 30 years at the University of Corsica and other international masters on plant biology, citrus reproduction, adaption to environment, breeding strategies and fruit quality management .
